"Fashion is poetry, not to be read but to be seen. It is an endless expression of ones self. Each line and curve flows as freely as written words on a page."

Alex Mariquit studied fashion design at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. Couture has always been his love and he takes pride in having the privilege to create garments with his own hands, by the experience and knowledge of this art that presently spans over fifteen years. He has a natural sense for clean lines, richness in textures and the harmony of colors, and is a firm believer that only fine construction will bind them together. "The magic of a design is not just a pretty sketch, nor is it just having good sewing techniques, but the ability to make the two...one."

The fifth son in a family of six boys, Alex was born in the Philippines and migrated to the United States at the age of five. His mother, Auring Mariquit, owned and operated MCM Creations in Manila.
"I credit much of my love for the garment industry to my mother. I can still remember her atalier in the Philippines and am constantly reminded of her achievements from other clients that have had the pleasure of wearing her work." In fact, one can often find Alex's mother at the shop, helping out or just entertaining clients.

History is a major source of his inspirations,
"It is through the truths of the past that direct us to the answers of tomorrow. Designers should spend less time worrying about the current trends and what others are doing...find inspiration and develop that...that's how timeless works are unfolded." Alex Mariquit loves to travel and experience other cultures and its history. "Books may be a great way to wet your feet, but being there is the only way to get really wet." Proud of his own heritage, he devotes much of his free time as a dancer, choreographer and the Costume Director for New York's premiere Filipino dance company, Folklorico Filipino Dance Company.

Alex enjoys playing around with computers and computer graphics as well. Aside from Alex Mariquit Designs, he also owns and operates iscann Graphic Solutions, offering services at a very competitive rate.

"I love what I do,
I love knowing what I can do,
and knowing that I have the capacity of doing even more."
